Our plans for 2021

The past twelve months has seen everyone face the challenge and opportunity of changing the way we do things; having to create new versions of what our work, learning, caring responsibilities, social lives, and much more look like.

It has also highlighted the value of live events and Music for Youth’s role in offering young people life-changing opportunities in music. We are more committed than ever to working with valued partners – old and new - to retain and grow our music network and to giving young people something to aspire to and be inspired by. Inevitably, we have adapted our delivery methods and embraced technology, but live music making will always be at the heart of what we do.

We therefore wanted to take this opportunity to share with you some of our plans for the forthcoming year.

2021 - Remixed and reimagined

Firstly, we have adopted a theme for the year for the first time. REMIX 2021 will reflect the times and the impact of substantial change on young people and their music making. We want to celebrate the many ways teachers, music leaders and young people have adapted, innovated, reimagined, reconfigured and rearranged how they make music together.

We are also very pleased to announce that we will be presenting two major national events under this banner – reimagined, remixed, and like you have never experienced them before; a new look hybrid national festival in Birmingham in July and a unique Prom-style concert at the Royal Albert Hall in November.

Dates for your diary

Our national festival will take place from 6th -10th July. Live venue-based performances and activities will be programmed on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th July in the newly developed Symphony Hall, Birmingham and there will be a blend of online activity throughout the whole of the Festival week.

We will also be returning to the Royal Albert Hall, London for a very special concert on Wednesday 3rd November. This will be a night to remember as we bring together young people, teachers and music leaders from all over the UK both face to face and beyond. There will be national call outs and digital projects and activities that will feed into these two major events.
