Music For Youth has been awarded £90,000 from the third round of the Government's Culture and Recovery Fund, Here For Culture. We are one of 925 organisations to be the recipients of this fund, which aims to support arts organisations as they recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.
This award supports our national programme, including youth engagement and mentoring sessions, large-scale national and digital events, including the recent 2021 Remix Prom at the Royal Albert Hall and further grassroots, regional performance opportunities and digital projects. It will support our organisation as we rebuild the MFY's programme and transitions to a new delivery model, and as we invest in new digital platforms, enabling wider accessibility and inclusivity.
The coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating effect on young people and live music making and the award from the Culture Recovery Fund enables us to provide motivational live and online events which bring young people, music teachers and leaders together across the country. Informal music making has been a life line for many during the pandemic and we now look forward to creating new opportunities to share music making once again. The re-imagined 2021 Remix Prom at the Royal Albert Hall (our first live event in two years) was a fantastic first step with nearly 2,000 young people performing together and sharing their experiences of lockdown.
About #HereForCulture
Here for Culture is a movement that unites the public, government and cultural organisations in support of our fantastic cinemas, theatres, music venues, museums, galleries and heritage.
Whether on the global stage or quietly in our own lives, culture inspires, uplifts, comforts and entertains us. In these challenging times, it’s our turn to continue to provide a lifeline and show our support. Everybody should have the opportunity to access a wide-range of high-quality cultural experiences, which is why it is so important that we support arts and cultural venues, cinemas and heritage sites in local communities to survive and thrive.
The government is #HereForCulture with an unprecedented amount of funding for the cultural sector, provided on top of the furlough scheme, bounce-back loans and emergency grants. The public continues to be #HereForCulture by getting back out and enjoying cultural activities in our local areas as organisations safely reopen their doors.
