Music for Youth Proms 2024

Showcasing the brilliance of young musicians from across the UK

The Music for Youth Proms showcases the brilliance of young musicians from across the whole UK. Known for its electric atmosphere and diverse musical performances, each night, over 1500 amazing young musicians perform on the iconic Royal Albert Hall stage in ensembles, bands, and choirs large and small. From orchestral classics to traditional folk and roots and from big band jazz to big sound rock and pop.

At the heart of this year’s Music for Youth Proms is a special new piece by composer Cassie Kinoshi, titled ‘the colour of all things constant’. The piece is commissioned in partnership with BBC, ABRSM and the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Ten Pieces project. With words by poet Belinda Zhawi, the commission focuses on the powerful and timely theme of kindness and is one of several works from the much-loved BBC Ten Pieces list to be performed during the Proms.

Over 1500 singers and instrumentalists, per night, will experience the electric atmosphere of performing at the Royal Albert Hall, as they take part in this special creative collaboration between Music for Youth, BBC Ten Pieces, ABRSM and the Royal Albert Hall as part of our Creative Project.

The Creative Project is open to musicians of all abilities, and will see the young people have the chance to play in the opening and finale of the Music for Youth Proms 2024.

“The Music for Youth Proms showcases the brilliance of young musicians from across the whole UK and this year promises to be very special.

Thanks to the partnership with BBC Ten Pieces, we have been able to commission a fantastic new piece by composer Cassie Kinoshi, titled ‘the colour of all things constant’, which will be performed by young musicians of all abilities from across the whole UK who will join in a massed orchestra and choir.  With words by poet Belinda Zhawi, the commission focuses on the powerful and timely theme of kindness.” - Phil Castang, Chief Executive of Music for Youth

SAY THANK YOU TO YOUR MUSIC TEACHER

This year we are also highlighting the incredible work music teachers do through our Thank Your Music Teacher campaign and we will be recognising the life-changing work of one dedicated teacher who has gone above and beyond to make musical magic happen in their community. From igniting a passion for music to helping us find our voice, these amazing educators make a lasting difference every day.

The Thank Your Music Teacher campaign is spearheaded by MFY Ambassador Jack Pepper and generously supported by the Tasso Foundation in association with RMG Associates.

Nominate a music teacher for the Thank Your Music Teacher Moment for a chance to receive VIP tickets to attend the event, along with a special prize for their school, hub, or group. There are two ways to participate: join in with one – or both!

1. Send us a video or message

We are collecting memories and stories like this one here from Nile Rogers. You can record a short video message and send it to us to post and add to our campaign website page or post it on social media yourself with #ThankYourMusicTeacher.
