Thank Your Music Teacher

Say thank you to your music teacher

Music for Youth is delighted to be working alongside MFY ambassador Jack Pepper to celebrate the UK’s most inspiring music teachers and their incredible impact on our lives. From igniting a passion for music to helping us find our voice, these amazing educators make a lasting difference every day.

Music has the power to bring together people from all walks of life, creating a sense of unity and connection. Join us in celebrating these extraordinary teachers and their contributions to our musical journeys!

The Thank Your Music Teacher campaign is spearheaded by MFY Ambassador Jack Pepper and generously supported by the Tasso Foundation in association with RMG Associates.

Let’s celebrate music teachers: How you can support the campaign

There are two ways to participate: join in with one – or both!

Send us a video or message

We are collecting memories and stories like this one here from Nile Rogers. You can record a short video message and send it to us to post and add to our campaign website page or post it on Social Media yourself with the #ThankYourMusicTeacher

DM your photo or video on social media at @musicforyouth or email marketing@mfy.org.uk. Your video can be up to 45 seconds, describing how your teacher has made an impact on you.

Why is the TYMT campaign needed?

We have a widely acknowledged music teacher crisis with a gap in recruitment numbers and poor working conditions. This campaign is intended to unite the music education sector to raise public awareness and promote the value of becoming a music teacher- and to highlight and showcase the incredible work music teachers do across the UK.

A campaign to promote the value of music teachers has a direct effect on young people’s access to music education.

Over the duration of the 3-year campaign, our objectives are to:

  • Increase the profile of and recognition for the critical role that music teachers play in developing and inspiring creativity and musicianship in children and young people.
  • Raise awareness with policymakers, schools, communities and audiences across the UK of the importance of music educators and music education.
  • Improve the status of music teaching so that it becomes a more attractive career to grow the talent pool supporting children and young people in their musical journey.
