Fundraising ideas

As a charity ourselves, we understand that it can sometimes be challenging to cover the costs of participating in or travelling to events, so here are a few ideas that might help to raise funds.

Go digital

Digital fundraising sites: setting up a Just Giving or Go Fund Me page is a great way of getting people engaged with your group or school: page links can be shared quickly and donations taken easily - often with the added benefit of gift aid, which increases the value of any gifts by 20%.

Social media: use your existing group social media accounts to fundraise. Add a donate button to Facebook or Instagram (click here for further advice on how to do this) and tailor your content link back to your fundraising goals.

Community grants

You may be eligible for a community grant if you make the case that performing at a Music For Youth Festival helps young people fulfil their potential and ultimately benefits the wider community. Some grant makers will only fund charities, but others will fund a broader range of organisations. Your local Community Foundation brings together a range of local grantmakers under one umbrella. Visit https://www.ukcommunityfoundations.org/ to search for your local foundation. Your local community foundation contact will be able to provide advice on eligibility.

Tried and tested fundraisers

Sometimes the old ones are the best ones! These familiar fundraisers can still be effective in generating funds:

  • Bake sales
  • Raffles and tombolas
  • Non-uniform or fancy dress day
  • Sponsored sessions – even better if you can make these musical!
  • Busking (where legal!)
